Classic Italian Wine regions – Valpolicella
Our wine events are never dull or intimidating and suit complete novices as well as those already into their wine. Come along and build up confidence together with other wine enthusiasts in our wonderful premises off Hills Road. Hand made nibbles to match the wines are always part of our delicious sessions.
Valpolicella sits in the north-eastern region of Italy and forms part of the Veneto.
Its famous red wines come in as a trio of siblings. The youngest sibling offers fresh, carefree cherry red Valpolicella perfect to drink as a mid-week red as the days grow shorter; Valpolicella Ripasso, its more serious older sibling is made by fermenting the young Valpolicella again with skins from raisined grapes for oomph and power. Their eldest sibling, Amarone, is made only from dried grapes and is a powerhouse of a wine, redolent of sultanas, figs, cherry liqueur, cinnamon and chocolate. If there was ever a wine made to be enjoyed with hearty winter food, Amarone is it. It also shines with mature cheese, including blue cheese and with umami dishes including wild mushrooms.
