Designed for complete novices in the kitchen, as well as those who cook but crave a more solid basis. The class is a little longer than our standard classes, and puts in place key skills and an understanding of how essential cooking works. Don’t be ashamed to admit this course is for you even if you have cooked for decades – many of us end up in a rut and feel that we lack essential skills to underpin our activities in the kitchen. This class is informative, friendly, fun and utterly hands on.
We cover eggs, such as perfect 5 second scramble and fool proof poached eggs; how to make a good sponge cake; how to make fluffy, buttery mash; perfect rice and al dente pasta; how to cook steak, make a decent Bolognese, a Green Thai Curry and a seriously good crumble.
The class culminates with a sit-down meal with wine and, as usual, guests leave with full recipe packs as well as full stomachs.
However, it is a long session at the end of a busy day, so we recommend you have something light to eat and perhaps a shot of espresso before heading to this class!
We are found at the very end of Purbeck Road (off Hills Rd by the sixth form centre) where you turn left by Abbey college and then carry straight on for about 60m to the white awnings you will see ahead.
Please note that there is some parking on site during evenings.

This class starts with an introduction to cacao, the history of chocolate, the role and art of tempering and the difference between couverture, ganache and plain chocolate.
You will learn how to temper, how to create slabs from which to cut shapes, how to make ganache, how to pipe fillings into pre-made shells, how to enclose and top. We will also be making hand rolled truffles.
The class will finish with a glass of chilled fizz while we pack up the chocolate in gift bags and boxes.
We are found at the very end of Purbeck Road (off Hills Rd by the sixth form centre) where you turn left by Abbey college and then carry straight on for about 60m to the white awnings you will see ahead.
Please note that there is very limited parking on site. We recommend the multi storey at the Leisure Centre less than 10min walk away or the Babraham Park & Ride which stops on Hills Road, very close to Purbeck Rd.

Baking bread from scratch is not merely fun – it is a huge confidence builder and a step towards a healthier life. Hand made bread is a complex carbohydrate, releasing slow energy and lacking the plethora of additives and preservatives of commercial bread.
We all like cake so in addition to the core skill of baking with fresh yeast, we share the science behind really good cake making.
We cover Focaccia, fantastic Pizza, little fluffy, delightful breakfast Rye rolls and a perfect Lemon Drizzle cake.
The teens will leave with the breads and cake they bake, having enjoyed their own fresh pizzas at the end of class.
We are found at the very end of Purbeck Road (off Hills Rd by the sixth form centre) where you turn left by Abbey college and then carry straight on for about 60m to the white awnings you will see ahead.
